Sunshine Blogger Award

I have always dreamt big and traveling has only been one of my big dreams. I think the world is too big and too amazing not to be seen. Before I turned 20 I found out the hard way that life can be short. It made me realise that I had no right to waste my life and be unhappy when so many people fight to stay alive and lose their fights. The one thing I don’t want is to wake up one day and realise there are hundreds of things I wish I had done but no time left.

So after I finished university I went to New Zealand, a country I wanted to visit since I was 10 years-old. For the past 8 years I’ve traveled to 20 countries and the older I get, the more countries I add to my must-see list. Last December I started this blog to tell my stories and I am very flattered at having been nominated by Sheena Benedicta (http://www.misstraveljunkie.com) for the Sunshine Blogger Award.

What do you love most about traveling?

I love discovering new places and amazing landscapes. I also love to see wild animals in their natural habitat. For me routine is a killer and traveling breaks it. I would go crazy otherwise.

Is there anything you dislike about traveling?

I hate to wait in airports for hours and answer tons of questions to get a visa. I also hate when travelers are considered as a wallet. We travel because we have money, ok, but that does’t mean that we are all rich or that we don’t care about how we spend it.

What are your earliest memory of traveling?

I was nine when I traveled for the first time abroad. My parents took my brothers and I to Tunisia. The only thing I remember from it are the markets.

Are you a tourist or a traveler, what do you see as a key difference?

Traveler I think. I prefer walking and public transport over taxi and organised tour. I visit less touristic places, travel with a cabine luggage only and buy very few souvenirs.

How many countries have you visited already?

More than 15. I have been to Cambodia and China twice. I have mostly traveled in Asia and this year I plan to discover Europe a lot more.

Which one is your favorite and why?

If I had to choose only one I would pick New Zealand. It was my first experience abroad, the country is beautiful and the people amazing. And it is there that I met my husband and got married.

What is one life changing learning that traveling taught you?

Traveling and living abroad is a lot easier than we think. Of course it is easier in some countries than it is in others but overall anyone can do it. When I am afraid of something I remind myself of this quote : It is not because things are difficult that we don’t act, it is because we don’t act that they are difficult.

Do you often feel people do not understand your love to keep traveling?

When I decided to go to New Zealand on a Working Holiday Visa 8 years ago, a lot of people thought it was stupid. They told me that I would not like it, that no country was better than France. I found it funny to receive such feedback from people who had never traveled in their lives. Obviously I didn’t listen to them and after New Zealand I went to Canada and then I moved to Czech Republic. Nowadays, more and more people travel so the feedback I get is totally different. They are excited to hear my stories and they often ask me where I am going next.

One travel destination in your bucket list that you cannot wait to tick off.

This year is a great year for me as I will have the whole summer to travel. I plan to hike the King’s trail in Sweden. Then I am not 100% sure yet but I would like to go to Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Italie, France…

One thing that needs changing in world traveling today.

The world is beautiful but it is not safe. I would love to visit Africa, Afghanistan or Brazil but I don’t want to risk my life for it. People should learn to respect and love each other.

A travel motto you live by.

We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us. – Anonymous.
